Second in a series of trade paperbacks collecting the vertigo comics title loveless, a western for grown ups. As such be warned there's some pretty strong sex violence and language in this and it's definitely for mature readers.

First volume told the story of wes cutter, returning to his hometown a few years after the american civil war, with vengeance in his heart for dark deeds performed in the past by the locals. This volume begins with three stand alone stories that each shed more light into one of the characters. The next four parts are one long story, in which a murderer is on the loose in the town and wes has to catch them. But other townsfolk are making their own plans..

I'd recommend starting with the first volume of the series, as this is a story that builds very slowly, and you might be a bit confused if you come straight in on this one. It does move slowly at times and you could be forgiven for thinking where's it all going, but do persevere. Because the ending of the last issue in this volume is an absolutely stunning development and will leave you desperately wanting to know what is going to happen next.

The artwork throughout is quite stylised, and really rather good, as it suits the story very well. This is an excellent series that gets stronger by the issue.

This is a western for grown ups. As such be warned it contains some very explicit sex and violence. Even by the standards of vertigo comics.

Serving to set up the storylines for this comic, this tells of how wes cutter, civil war veteran, returns to his home town. He seemingly has revenge in mind on more than a few people, and goes about getting back into the local community. But then he gets an offer he wasn't expecting...

Full of memorable characters and some strong writing - and the aforementioned sex and violence - this isn't an easy read, due to the narrative jumping back and forth via frequent flashbacks. But take it slowly, soak up the writing and the atmosphere, and you should enjoy this very much if you're in the mood for this kind of thing.
