Review
Empire Magazine, October 2005: " A hefty collection of the observations of Harvey Pekar (**** 4 stars)..."

Product Description
Experience the heartwarming, all-American story of a crank and his comic book...Thanks to the hit American Splendor movie, Harvey Pekar is now known around the world. But how did a former file clerk from Cleveland and up with an Oscar nomination? The story begins in 1976, when Harvey began publishing his autobiographical, slide-of-downtrodden-life comic book, illustrated by a who's who of underground comic artists, including R. Crumb, Frank Stack, Gary Dumm and Joe Sacco. Titan is proud to present our third book from Harvey, an all-new compilation of his best work, featuring 100 per cent previously uncollected material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Throught Provoking and Very Funny, 6 April 2006

(REAL NAME)
I'm not going to give a historical account of how i was first introduced to Harvey Pekar, that would be boring. I find his work very entertaining to say the least. He writes about everyday life in a highly lucid and lyrical manner and makes life seem 'interestingly complex' yet seemingly 'dull and dreary' (which I think contains happiness and pleasure, with the expression of despair). Anything you experience in everyday life is highlighted in these short yet cynically brilliant Comic's, from the mundane to the sublime joys of everyday life. You get a fascinating insight into a life of a man who is unique and boldly sharp with his humour, cynical attitude and wit.

I'm not going to write a huge review (even though I would love to say all the things I love about these comics). Some of the comics contained within this collection are brilliant, they really seem to connect on a personal level more so than anything else I have read.

He's the kind of writer that gets you interested in things he talks about (I've recently brought a Jazz CD after reading about the genre in this book).

If you have a good sense of humour (and appreciate that humour contains melancholy) this is a luminous book to acquire.

If you just want an introduction to the man, the film "American Splendor", is a great overture to his life.

He is an inspiring and stimulating writer who deserves more credit than he gets.
