The weakest TPB of the series so far., 25 May 2005
NOTE: As with the last two volumes, the synopsis given above is inaccurate. The stories with BoShek and Han and Chewie don't feature here at all.THE STORY: Four, in fact. 'Princess...Warrior' tells the story of how Princess Leia is transformed from from an idealistic pacifist into the brave warrior we see in the films. The second story, 'A Little Piece Of Home', has Leia seeking the help of an old boyfriend. In 'Alone Together' Rebel recruit Deena Shan finds her world view turned upside down by a short trip in the company of Leia, Han and Chewie. Finally, 'Breaking The Ice', a Valentine's Special, takes place just before 'The Empire Strikes Back' and has Han and Leia growing close whilst trapped in a Hoth blizzard. WHAT'S GOOD: I quite enjoyed seeing Leia before she gets her gutsy all-action persona, particularly as she overcomes her anxiety and faces down Darth Vader himself. Han is on top form in the latter two stories, chatting up Deena to annoy Leia and winding the Princess up further still whilst trapped on Hoth. I particularly enjoyed 'Breaking The Ice'. Perhaps it's because I'm an old romantic, but I really enjoyed seeing Han and Leia's love/hate relationship at it's most fiery. Throughout the book, the art is exceptional, with 'Alone Together' worth a special mention. WHAT'S BAD: When all's said and done, not much actually happens in this collection of stories. Also, Leia's character has always irritated me a bit because she's so self-righteous, so to have a whole book of her isn't the best thing. I don't know, perhaps this book might simply be easier for the female readers to connect with.
