2.0 out of 5 stars Neither one thing nor the other, 29 May 2007
The book is an information mish-mash. There are celebrity quotes from green thespians and others, quite a lot of advertisements and a selection of small but inspiring photographs. There are some useful snippets of information but these come in bitr sized pieces. It was the first book I had ever purchased on wildlife gardening but it won't be the last. The most useful section: FURTHER READING!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best wildlife book ever..., 12 Dec 2008

I agree with the previous reviewer, this book is very strange. While there is some really useful informtion buried within, the structure of the book jumps around from topic to topic and is a bizarre mixture of some handy tips and questions from the public and responses from fellow enthusiasts and professionals. My main criticism is there is far too much space given over to advertising in this book. I guess this has been done to keep the selling price down but, as it's produced in conjunction with the RHS and the UK Wildlife Trusts, it left me feeling a bit short changed.

If you're thinking of buying it I'd recommend borrowing this particular book from the library first as there are far better books out there; Chris Baines' book on wildlife gardening is the best I've come across so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyably different and very readable, 8 Jun 2009
Seeing the 2 star comments I wanted to say that I really like this book and had come onto Amazon to buy another copy as a gift. No it isn't a straight forward how-to-do guide, it is laid out in a magazine style, which I find very relaxed. You can dip in anywhere and learn something interesting without getting bogged down. There are fascinating articles, and maybe it would appeal more to someone who has already a little knowledge. I actually even found the ads useful as they have been clearly been chosen by the RHS and Wildlife Trusts to be relevant to the subject matter so lots of resources. It was useful to see a variety of opinions on, for example, providing ideal bee habitats and what has worked best through experience. All in all I think a very useful dip-into book.
