Product Description

Review
If you are often asked for a gift for visitors from abroad, and you want something different that reflects our culture, then ABC UK fits the bill. It has lots of potential: It makes an ideal souvenir, can be enjoyed by all ages and is educational too. There is a glossary in the back, and it could certainly be used in classrooms to discuss citizenship. In short, a must-have in every bookshop. --The Bookseller

Jamee Dunn's book is a heartwarming mix of the predictable and the unexpected, the traditional and the mmulticultural. Helen Bate's witty illustrations make the most of the resulting juxtapositions. Ona bad day you might want to substitute Hoodies for Holmes and Reality TV for Robin Hood but this is the UK on a good day, as it should be in a children's book, and as grown-ups sometimes need reminding. --The Financial Times

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, well executed, 23 Sep 2008
By H. D. Evans "Huw Evans" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great idea, well executed. Each letter of the alphabet is represented by an illustration belonging to the geography, history or culture of the four countries of the United Kingdom. The choices for each letter are imaginative and the artwork is rich in colour and imagery. It is a lovely way to familiarise young children with the alphabet, while subliminally reinforcing pride in the richness of our shared heritage. Our baby loved the colours and as parents we found ourselves thinking of all the places we wanted to visit in our own country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suddenly it feels great to be British..., 12 Sep 2008
By C. Morrison "angloscot" (Somerset) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book knowing I'd like it, but I wasn't entirely certain my children - boys ages 2 and 4 - would as well.

Happily, they really love it. And suddenly we all know a bit more of what it is to be British and it feels good!

Whoever's planning the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2012 Olympics should take a look at this book and steal some of its best ideas! It's fun; it's beautifully done; it's clever; and it's simple too.

1.0 out of 5 stars This must be a joke!, 5 Nov 2008
By Tomas Beamish - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A for aple, B for bee, C for cereals, this is what I expected to see, instead of this there is B for Beatles, H for Holmes /Sherlok/, P for punk, S for Stonehenge???? How am I suppose to explain theese to my 3,5 years son, who wants to learn the Alphabet. Are the authors making jokes with the parents or with the kids.
