Review

Not for the squeamish! For children who like their food familiar and their rhymes revolting. (Sunday Times )

Product Description

Freya has an appetite as fine as can be – until one day she declares, "Your dhal and rice are just not nice." She spurns baked beans, sausages, and soon she's very thin indeed. Mum, in despair, phones Grandma Clare. "We'll sort her," says Grandma, "the fussy little beast." So off Freya goes for a fabulous feast – and a lesson she will never forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and Mischievous, 19 Jul 2009
By G. Lever "Gill Lever" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fussy Freya is a favourite with my 5 year old son. The rhymes are hilarious and the sense of mischief - first on the part of Freya and then on the part of her wonderful grandparents in Norfolk as they turn the tables on their fussy eater granddaughter - is a delight. The illustrations are marvellous too. All the characters are drawn beautifully with quirky charm, and we particularly liked the warthog served with a bit of cheese (Norfolk style). Parents with children who are fussy eaters, with all the stress that goes with it, will enjoy this book because reading it to the children will tackle the problem with psychological subtlety and fun. One of the best children's books around - in a league with Lauren Child and Julia Donaldson/Axel Scheffler. We hope Katharine Quarmby will write us some more books soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fussy Freya , 23 Mar 2009
By HARRISON-BULLETT "Clare H-B" (France) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
We love Fussy Freya. What a fantastic, funny, beautifully illustrated cracker of a childrens' book. We laugh each time we read it (and we've read it a good hundred times) and my little boy adores following the cat throughout the story to see if he gets Freya's leftovers or not. Our little one isn't quite at the stage of refusing food and I'm hoping this book will mean we skip over that phase.. but if we don't, we shall indeed re-read and re-read Fussy Freya! The book's catchphrase "not a little, not a jot!" has become a common cheer in our family and we impatiently await more adventures from Freya.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Fussy Freya, 20 Jan 2009
By A reader (London, UK) - See all my reviews
Fussy Freya is a delight. My niece and nephew who have been known to turn up their nose at rice and dhal and sausages too thoroughly enjoyed it. It has great humour and characters and gorgeous illustrations and is one of those books you want to read again and again. If you've got problem eaters or kids who just want a laugh or even a lovely rhyming text this is one for you. Judy, London
