Review

The fascination and entertainment that books offer readers permeates every inch of this book… and the endpapers entice everyone who opens it to read, and read and read some more. Every library should have one (or, even better) two copies. (Ibby Link )

A book for library lovers everywhere, the publisher has discovered a gem by transporting this American edition by the talented husband and wife team across the Atlantic. (School Librarian )

This book provides a very clever representation of how some private libraries come to exist and it is a wonderfully depicted. (www.writeaway.org.uk )

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bibliophile's Delight, 6 Jul 2006
By kehs (Hertfordshire, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This is an adorable book. Not only is it a joy to read but the illustrations are delightful too. It tells the wonderful tale of Elizabeth Brown who just loves to read and read and read. She keeps every one of her books until one day she realises that her house is full to overflowing. What does she do about this? Read the book to find out - you won't be disappointed, it's a real treasure. Adults and children alike will cherish this short story book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, 16 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Library (Paperback)
I adore the books of Sarah Stewart. I plan to use these books when I start teaching. Although I live and will work in a majority minority neighborhood, I know any child that can read will love to read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elizabeth Brown-Definitely an Avid Reader!, 6 May 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Library (Hardcover)
Sarah Stewart has written a sweet story, and David Small's illustrations have captured its simplicity and beauty. Elizabeth Brown reads, and reads, and reads. How lovely to have the time to read as much as Elizabeth Brown. I've read both "The Library", and "The Gardener" (also by this author and illustrator) to my class. These books have a very soothing effect on both the second-graders and their teachers!

I found this book quite by accident. If you're a book lover of any age, you'll love it. This is a very short story about Elizabeth Brown, who loved to read so much that it... Read more
