Product Description

Product Description

Management Theory and Practice provides a clear and concise introduction to the theory and practice of management as required by those studying an introductory management course. Now in its sixth edition, this book is established as one of the best selling introductions to the ideas and developments that form the basis of the study of management.

While the overall structure of this new edition remains the same, all the material has been updated and much of the material has been expanded. In particular given the speed of the developments in information technology, the chapter on this topic has been completely rewritten. Other chapters that have been substantially revised include the chapter on the international aspects of management and the chapter on individual employment rights. Other topics that have been substantially revised include corporate governance and the role of directors, business ethics, organisation culture and strategy.

New to this edition:

All the material has been updated and much of the material has been expanded for currency.

The chapter on IT has been completely rewritten to reflect developments in the area.

Other chapters and topics that have been substantially revised include: the chapter on the international aspects of management and the chapter on individual employment rights, corporate governance and the role of directors, business ethics, organisation culture, and strategy.

Features:

Clear and concise introduction to the theory and practice of management as required by all those studying an introductory management course.

A range of referenced books and articles throughout the text encourage wider reading and provide opportunities for discussion and comment.

Material is presented in relatively short chapters with numbered paragraphs for easy reference.

Each group of chapters has its own questions for discussion or revision, and most chapters also have one or two practice examination questions. Answers are provided for ease of reference, but there are also questions without answers for further study.

A Glossary of key terms helps students familiarise themselves with the key concepts, and may be especially helpful to overseas students unfamiliar with UK practice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Down-to-earth, concise coverage of major theories & areas, 6 Sep 2000
By A Customer
I borrowed this book from my local library in April, and 6 months later I'm still renewing it every 3 weeks! It's invaluable for my current management course. The book starts by discussing all the important theorists from Fayol, up to present day management thinking then going on to cover many other topics that appear in various University Diploma courses - industrial relations, strategies etc.

The chapters are broken down into short, numbered paragraphs and most discussion is concise and to the point - no waffling.

The book has many "homework" questions at the end of each chapter and basic answers at the back. It also has past exam questions - the answers to which can be obtained from the publisher should you require.

Overall it's one of the best management books I've found - try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money..., 15 Sep 2002

An invaluable book used by myself during my managements studies with an excellent easy to read and reference format.

Ideal for those in formal study in either management science or MBA courses, but not for those looking for a lighter read.

Another one for the bookshelf along with Charles Handy's Understanding Organisations book. If you are studying Management, then you will find this a useful and easy to understand reference.
