Book Description
Tired? Trapped? Troubled?

Long working hours, travel and ever-evolving gadgets connecting us to an always-on world leave many people sapped of energy and far too tired. Families and friends often get the dregs of lives worn out by work. Financial anxiety is the padlock that keeps us trapped. Sometimes we wonder whether we are in God's will and what the long-term legacy of our life will be.

Work-life balance problems? Paul Valler has been there.

Based on firsthand experience of a pressurized life Paul digs deep to uncover the root cause of our symptoms and shows how gaining a strong identity and clear purpose enables us to make winning choices. Bite-sized chapters and thoughtful questions make it possible for even the most committed workaholic to get a life.

From the Back Cover
This heartfelt, wise and vigorous book has the potential to help its readers do exactly what it says on the cover. May it be so for you. From the foreword by Mark Greene, LICC

Paul Valler deserves an immense 'well done' for his exposure of the flaws in many work-related ideas, the debilitating effect of peer pressure, the deceptive nature of workplace culture e.g. "having to stay late", and for nailing the artificial and often unhelpful sacred/secular divide. Tom Stevens, Transform Work UK

(This book)...makes the connections between faith and work, between Sunday morning and Monday morning. Tim Chester, Author of The Busy Christian's Guide to Busyness

... a practical, honest, Christ-centred help in our quest to live authentic lives.
Jago Wynne, All Souls, Workplace Ministry

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Perspective on Work-Life Balance , 24 Aug 2008
This is an excellent book on a much-needed subject. Paul Valler speaks from real-life experience as a Christian professional in a high-pressure job. The book is extremely practical and thought provoking. The illustrations and scenarios in every chapter strike a chord and make the book extremely readable. However, having put the finger on my problems I was glad that I wasn't left dangling and sent off to just work out the answers for myself. This is where the book was at it's most valuable, and I felt that there were then very clear and useful solutions and a good use of scripture to back them up. The middle chapters around the subject of materialism and the slavery that consumer ambitions can put on us were particularly challenging. Thank you Paul for an excellent and life-changing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Key truths, 27 Aug 2008
Below are a few of the many key truths in the book which spoke to me, and are presented with such clarity and empathy by Paul Valler. It is a must read and a challenge to change!

* Our self-worth and acceptance are ultimately found in who we are as God's children - not by what we do... Work culture is performance based whilst Christian culture is grace based...The expectations we put on ourselves are often way beyond what makes sense, yet we find it difficult to step off the treadmill.
* We discover our role in life through our relationship to others. Workplace relationships are based on getting the job done, but relationships in the body of Christ are based on a common identity in Christ.
* Forgiveness is not easy, but it is key to our mental and emotional health and important to maintaining our freedom to contribute positively to those around us.
* Our calling is usually consistent with a sense of passion. Developing our personal mission is one of the most powerful ways to bring work and life into alignment, into an integrated whole in the context of God's mission on earth.
