A powerful anthology of 15 stories about the real-life experiences of children from all the regions affected by the tsunami of Boxing Day 2004. Each child's story, retold by a different well-known children's author, is followed by a short update of the child's progress by an aid-worker.

The book is positive, inspirational, and forward-looking. It tells incredible stories of bravery and survival and looks at how the global aid effort has affected the children involved.

An introduction explains what happened in December 2004 and a map shows the areas affected. The aid effort is also described, explaining to readers how their charity donations have helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerfully emotional experience, 7 Dec 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Higher Ground (Paperback)
When I bought this book I was not sure what to expect as it is by such a wide variety of authors, but having read it I cannot recommend it highly enough. Although it is a children's book, it is a great read for adults too.

Each story is by a different author and about a real child's experience in the tsunami. You cannot possibly read all of the stories in one go - they are too emotionally charged - but if you read 1 story each day it acts as a poigniant reminder of what is important in life. The stories are harrowing and deeply sad but also, in a strange way, life affirming because the emotions are so real. Each story is followed by a nice postscript about how the children are getting on after the tsunami.

And its all for a good cause, so buy it.
