This book is edited by the BBFC so is factually accurate - unlike other books about the BBFC. Ideal for students of film and film regulation and also fascinating for anyone interested in the history of film in the UK.

There have been a number of books written about the BBFC.I was though looking forward to this as it was to utilise the archives.Unfortunately I was to be greatly disappointed.I appreciate that much material was lost during the war when the Boards offices were destroyed.However that is no reason for practically ignoring the first 50 years of the boards existence. which is dealt with in 50 pages.instead there is page after boring page about legislation from the 80s and 90s and how it affected the boards views.If you are currently studying media it will be of interest to you.If you are like me and are interested in the furore aroused by horror fims of the 30s go the National Archives in Kew and read the files there.By the way the print is tiny and the quotes are in pale type.Difficult to read without perfect vision.

Thoughtfully and accessibly put together - can be read as a chronological history of film censorship in Britain, but it's also good for dipping into for the case studies. Fans of Indiana Jones and James Bond will learn that we've missed footage over here that was passed as OK in other parts of the world, and the reasons behind it! Fascinating stuff.
