5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 9 Mar 2009

This is by far one of the best books I have read. There's a little bit of everything thrown in there even the tear jerker, so well written. I didn't want to put the book down and had to pace myself as wanted to find out what was coming next. Fantastic read :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A really enjoyable book, 27 Sep 2008

I really enjoyed this book. There's a type of writing that almost makes me forget I'm reading - it's more as though I'm listening to someone tell me a story - and the writing of 'Steffi McBride' is like that. Perhaps it has something to do with the very realistic dialogue.
I kept telling myself "I'll just read one more chapter," and then, "Well, perhaps just one more..." and ended up reading the whole book in just a couple of sittings.
I'd certainly recommend this book to readers of any age. It's a 'tale of our times' and an excellent and absorbing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not to be missed!!, 22 Sep 2008
By E. Murray "A fan!" (London, UK) - See all my reviews

Rarely do I devour a book in one sitting, but The Overnight Fame of Steffi McBride, hooked me from the very beginning.

No-nonsense Steffi comes from a boisterous family, lives in an unremarkable estate and would regard her life as distinctly average. Then, one evening at an acting class, she is spotted, and her life changes overnight. Suddenly, Steffi is caught up in a whirlwind of parties, photo shoots and adoring fans. As the country's darling, she wins a singing contest, receives a BAFTA nomination and bags her dream boyfriend - things couldn't be better.

However, as her fame grows, the cracks begin to show and her past begins to catch up with her. As the tide turns against her, Steffi has a choice: to ride out the wave or plunge into despair.

Narrated by the straight-talking and highly likeable main character, Steffi, this is a humorous, poignant and truly engaging novel that really captures the effects of celebrity. If you ever wonder what's going on in the mind of Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears, then this is the book to buy.

A great up-to-date book. Couldn't put it down, but it needs a sequel to put the ending right! I'm sure AJ Crofts can manage that and I'll be first on line to buy it!
