Product Description

Product Description

Alex Best's remarkable story is one of determination, heartbreak and, ultimately, triumph. From air stewardess to the nation's favourite cover girl, the road to stardom has been a rocky one, paved with obstacles and sometimes disaster. With her steely nerve and stunning good looks, she has nevertheless made it to the top. When she met and married George Best, her life changed forever. Alex stood by her husband throughout their troubled marriage, until his alcoholism and infidelity became too much for her to bear and they parted. Alex has now rebuilt her life and, having won the hearts of the nation in "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here", has forged a successful career for herself in presenting and modelling.

About the Author

Alex Best is one of the most popular celebrities today. She attracts media attention wherever she goes and regularly appears on the front cover of a host of high-profile magazines, including Hello, Loaded, Maxim and OK! She has also written a column for the celebrity magazine Closer. In between her presenting and modelling careers, Alex still finds time to raise money for a range of charities and is a keen promoter of animal welfare.

4.0 out of 5 stars ALCOHOLIC, HARDLY ANONYMOUS, 7 Feb 2007
By JUDE (IRELAND) - See all my reviews
Certain things become crystal clear reading this book. Firstly, Alex loved George. It is apparent all the way through this fascinating yet depressingly predictable story of a woman, not much more than a girl at the start of their affair, trying to keep an alcoholic, old enough to be her father, off the booze. What also becomes clear is that he loved the demon drink and hedonistic lifestyle more than anything ,or anyone, in his life. For the trials, false starts, fights and splits outlined were first outlined by a previous Mrs. A Best, Angie, mother of professional playboy,( and not much else) Calum. The difference being that whilst the exploits of the young Best added to his legend, those of his latter years merely added to the disintegration of his liver. There is something quite ironic in the photo of George and Alex going to a `do` where he was voted rascal of the year. It is also clear that Alex was treated badly by most of her late husband`s family, as is usually the way in a messy marriage break up. She can be really annoying harping on about her new car or her new shoes, but that is because she was only a young girl and that`s what young girls do. She earned whatever she got from the marriage, as did Angie before her, because life with the great man was life with Jeykll and Hyde. Including the violence. She nursed him back to something resembling health and that was her real downfall because once he no longer needed her, he was off, falling in with a series of women who probably thought THEY would be able to do what the Best women couldn`t, change him. This book was re-issued and re-titled ALWAYS ALEX, in order to cover the final illness, and death, of GB. In the last chapter she makes reference to his unknown daughter and it is clear he was affected by the absence. Maybe a daughter could have helped him stop drinking, but it`s unlikely. He was an alcoholic and that`s what alcoholics do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absymal, Alex, 12 Jul 2005

This review is from: Always Alex: My Story (Hardcover)
Alex Best's autobiography is terrible- she hasn't done a day's work in her life. This book is just revenge against George Best. She can't write to save her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Best's FANTASTIC read!!!, 15 Feb 2006
This review is from: Always Alex: My Story (Hardcover)
I started reading Alex's book on a Saturday morning and finished it on the following tuesday. I read it in 4 days. It is a great read and i couldnt bring myself to put the book down. She lets us in on an isight of her life mainly with George and she doesnt hold anything back. She explains the gruelling job she had to take up by being with George but at the end reveals how she has come out of it as a strong and amazing person. It is a definate MUST read and i promise you you wont get bored. !!!!!
