Product Description

Product Description

Joan Roddam - pensioner murdered Millie Dowler - found brutally murdered, 2002. Colonel Riley Workman - shot dead outside his home, 2004. All murdered - yet their murderers are unknown and still at large...When people talk about getting away with murder, few realise that in reality one in ten murderers do. In this chilling book, bestselling author and former undercover detective Peter Bleksley examines just why so many murders go unsolved. Despite the fact that we are photographed up to 300 times a day whether we commit a crime or not and incredible advances in DNA testing, murder is more common than ever. Using his own considerable investigative powers and his unique access to police resources and contacts he looks at ten unsolved murder cases from the 21st Century to discover where the problems lie and what can be done. His findings whilst disturbing, point to glaring errors that have been made in the way we look at murder and what we can do to stop it.

About the Author

Peter Bleksley joined the Metropolitan Police in 1978 and his first posting was to Peckham police station in South London. He developed a skill for undercover work whilst working as a detective for Kensington and Chelsea. In 1988 he became a founder member of Scotland Yard's undercover SO10 unit. Since leaving the Police Force he has become a successful author, a consultant to documentary and drama makers and the proud father of two. His success rate in all the murders he was asked to investigate whilst serving as an officer stands at 100 per cent.

Fantastic read, couldn't put the book down.
The lengths the author went to to get the whole picture of murdered victims is incredible and scary. A very brave man.
Each chapter goes into so much detail of all the victims and the murders, it was as if the author knew each victim and was on the investigating team. The detail is incredible.
I would recommend this book to anyone!!!!!
Great read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Bleksley - the missing link?, 3 Nov 2005
Any reader will quickly appreciate that there are glaring gaps in the British criminal justice system. The author time and again highlights inadequacies in murder investigations and - far worse - gaps in the law which make it too easy for the guilty to go free.

These are big issues which can only be addressed with great thought and care. The great virtue of this book is that the author has researched individual cases with great care. He builds up a picture from all the various angles - interviews with victims' families and with friends, neighbours or just passers-by who have something useful to say, descriptions of the crime scene, and detailed accounts of how the "system" has worked, or has not worked.

Legal and police methods are not perfect, and in an imperfect world they cannot always be. However there are many causes for concern and hopefully by drawing attention to them Peter Bleksley has done what officers of the law cannot, or will not, do - i.e. create a debate about what needs to be changed.
