I am in awe at some of the comments given here with regards to slating this book. Any chart buff worth their salt would know that the British charts historically have been dated from their week end dates.

This book is a triumph. As a massive music and chart fan myself, I found that this book was able to give me information on my favourite hits that even I didn't know. Even for the artists who have had multiple number ones, Kutner and Leigh are able to write a sensible and informative commentary that is able to give a personal feel to each entry.

It is unlikely that there will be a second edition of this book until at least the 1200th number 1, I would have thought, which at the current rate is some years off yet. However, I would look forward to reading a book that gives the story behind every number 2. The 1000th number 2 is a few years off and a book charting the story behind every number 2 would certainly be worth reading.

Keep up the good work!

Having read through the book, I have to say it's a real disappointment. As a regular listener to Spencer Leigh, I was expecting something more interesting than this..okay, what do you write about 12 Westlife songs, but it seems a lack of research went into the book as there are lots of annoying mistakes and the real music buff will find themselves counting the mistakes(there's too many to list here), rather than reading the quite frankly, boring narative....sorry....

I was given a copy of the 1000 UK number ones as a 30th birthday present and am delighted with it. I am trying to collect all the number ones since the chart began and am finding this book so wonderfully informative. There was so much new information that I had not seen in any other publication. Well done to both authors for a grand effort. If they have plans to either update it or write a book on number two hits, I'll be the first to buy it. Thanks David
