5.0 out of 5 stars your sins will be found out, 17 Aug 2008
By Paul Tapner (poole dorset england) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
an audiobook from producers big finish. they usually do doctor who audios but have occasionally branched out into other shows, and on this occasion it's the turn of stargate, a tv show spun off from the 1990's movie about a military science expedition to another world via a device found buried in the desert. the tv show ran for ten seasons and focused on the exploits of a team of explorers that used the gate to explore new worlds and battle nasty aliens.

and whilst you could probably pick this story up via the audio if you've not got any familiarity with the show I wouldn't recommend it.

So let's focus the review on stargate fans as you're probably the only ones who will read it.

this features claudia black reprising the role of vala. In this story she's imprisoned on an alien world for an unspecified crime. daniel jackson has to come along and try to get to the truth of things. specifically to find what exactly she did.

the script is superb and makes full use of the character of vala ever so well, and focuses on the highly charged relationship she has with daniel. michael shanks is the only other actor involved in this, reprising the daniel role, and he and claudia black effortlessly slip back into the relationship their characters had on tv. and great fun it is too, with some delightfully witty dialogue and moments.

and it's also a very clever script, as vala is an unreliable narrator, so not all you hear may be true, and it takes a while to get to the root of things.

there are fun moments such as her impersonation of her team mates and how they speak.

It's also a good little story with a lot of twists and turns.

the story runs for sixty minutes, the disc divided into twelve tracks, and concludes with track thirteen being a ten minute long interview with claudia black which is very good and worth a listen.

a really entertaining audio and great fun to listen to

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mini-adventure for Vala MalDoran, 2 Aug 2008
By E. Laan "audiobook fan" (Auckland NZ) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An entertaining episode in the life of the wise-cracking Vala MalDoran, who finds herself imprisoned on a backward planet for a crime she (maybe) didn't commit. Can her lawyer (Daniel Jackson) save her from execution?
Vala and Daniel are played in this audiobook by the original actors from the television series (and they play everyone else as well). They make the most of a witty, laugh-out-loud script. The highlight for me is Vala's wicked impression of Daniel on an archeological dig. Fun diversion for a quiet moment, and will be listened to again many times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, entertaining and full of suspense, 9 Feb 2009
By Besella Kaefer (Paderborn, Germany) - See all my reviews
This is a truly suspensfull, funny story. I love the way Claudia Black tells it. I bought this CD after "Gift of the Gods" , narrated by Michael Shanks. Initially, because he was listed as a co-narrator. But Claudia Black is in fact a better, and funnier narrator than him.
