Product Description

Synopsis
Sole surviving member of his unit, Rogue Trooper is cut off from Souther lines and hunted remorselessly by the Nort forces. He's hot on the trail of the Traitor General who sold out Rogue and his buddies, three of whom accompany him as sentient life-chips stored in his high-tech weaponry. When his latest lead takes him back to the site of the Quartz Zone Massacre, Rogue gets more than he bargained for at the hands of a unit of brutal bio-warriors.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new dimension for a great 2000AD character, 13 May 2005
By R. Szweda "rszweda2" (mk uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have been reading the Rogue Trooper stories in the 2000AD comic for decades. These are amongst the best ever. So naturally I was interested in this novel wondering if it would work.

I had tried one of the other novels in this DF series on the ABC Warriors and somehow could not get into it. This book is a different story.... ho ho.

I will not go into the legend that is RT - you should do a Google search if you have yet to enjoy his trials and tribulations. He is much like the Silver Surfer but less of a hippy. I really like the whole Nort-Souther War and wish that 2000AD had made more of this marvellous 'Future War' invention rather than try and get us interested in junk like Beck & Kawl.

Suffice to say it is all about a soldier who at first glance is a lone agent - but the great novelty of the character invention is the 'biochipped buddies' who accompany him. This is unique and allows him to move the story along by chatting to his helmet, gun and backpack. They help him but resent their fate. This new book adds in some other fully living characters so it adds well to the genre.

As you read this new original adventure (it has not been in the comic) you imagine RT on your mental movie screen as the blue-skinned troubled superman gets in and out of all sorts of scrapes.

It reads well and you want to read more but I ration myself to a chapter a day. The story has new characters in it but adheres to the Quartz Zone massacre incident that started it all then takes it a stage further. So even if you think you know all about RT this adds more background and you get under his blue skin a lot more.

I am now looking forward to reading the other one in the series. Plus I might give JS' other books a go too.

3.0 out of 5 stars blood relative, 5 Jan 2009

As a Rogue trooper fan having read the 2000AD pictorial books,I was intrigued by this book.
It details the beginnings of the genetic infantry and introduces new characters, its a brave attempt recapping past storylines, but could do with a little more in depth of the constant challenges norts and southers face.
In a nutshell,if you are new to Rogue and the gang read this, it will help you out very well and lead you into the pictorials.Characters/stories mentioned will make more sense if you have read these first.
A worthy read, bit at a time, too much may overload.to quick an ending for the baddie,it must be her on the cover, not a GI doll.I look forward to reading it again.7/10
