5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and very readable, 22 Jun 2005

Many history books just turn you off with too many names ,dates and too much minor detail. This volume reads like the great adventure that English history has been. Excellent on fact but thoroughly readable and enjoyable, I refer to it time and time again. Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A People's History of Britain by Rebecca Fraser, 18 Aug 2004
By J. D. Brearley (Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining romp through our history. I was reminded what a wonderful story it is. One cannot understand the present without an appreciation of the past. This is a lovely general history which keeps one's attention. My only complaint is the last twenty pages. She is very generous about the Blair government; history will be far less indulgent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative, 31 Dec 2003
By A Customer
I am nine years old, and I'm really enjoying this book. I haven't finished it yet, but I certainly want to. It has taught me lots of things that I didn't know beforehand. For instance, I didn't know that Henry II owned nearly all of France! I think this book is for everyone who is interested in learning more about Britain's past.

Certainly an entertaining and interesting read. One of the best histories I've encountered.
