Product Description

Review
'The Behaviour of Moths by Poppy Adams is a debut and new and emphatic voice; this story of the reunion of two batty sisters in their huge and crumbling house completely grips and the lepidopteran theme is totally convincing.' Rodney Troubridge, Waterstone's

PSYCHOLOGIES
'THE BEHAVIOUR OF MOTHS is an intricately crafted story, told with just the right balance of claustrophobia and compassion.'

4.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing, 21 May 2008
By L. Schlemmer (Hove, East Sussex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this book in the space of three days whilst waiting for a late baby to arrive!
It completely absorbed me from the first few pages. The house in which events unfold is at once spookily claustrophobic and at the same time a labyrinth of opportunities to tell each part of the story.

I loved the specificities of the moth science, I loved the intricate detail of Ginny's routines, ticks and habits - both appealed to my inner geek. I loved the sister to sister, mother to daughter and daughter to father relationships and different perspectives on the truth. I loved the boldness with which each surprise is revealed. I loved the sense of history leading inevitably to the events of the present. A really really great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have read for a long time, 27 May 2008
By Emma Barker (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Beautifully written and superbly constructed, Poppy Adams has created a gripping novel, a treat to read. The central character, Ginny, slowly unravels her life story as she perceives it. Her life's work has been to study moths, how they are unable to consciously change anything about their behaviour - the parallels are strong between this and her own behaviour. Will nurture play a greater part in her life than nature? Can she consciously change what is preconditioned within her? A totally absorbing read - a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book, 24 May 2008
By Peter Monro (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are someone who craves a great book, but often has to read about a dozen before finding one that really hits the spot, then look no further than The Behaviour of Moths.
The story is highly original, with a plot of amazing depth and complexity that unfolds with a rhythm that only great authors can achieve. The descriptive vocabulary that forms and augments the characters and narrative is remarkable, and the research and detail is so good it borders on obsessive. Combine all of this, and the end result is a rare form of gripping escapism that evokes a wide array of emotions. This ranks of one of the best books I have discovered!!
