Product Description
Synopsis
Tony Blackburn is probably one of the most recognizable disc jockeys working in Britain today, and is always busy doing what he does best - playing music to listeners. With Radio One celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Tony feels the time is right to commemorate his own anniversary, and look back on the time he has spent in radio and the media. The days spent as a radio pirate, to becoming the number one DJ in the UK for the best part of a decade. The stars he befriended, the rivalries in radio he endured, the friendships made, and broken, all will be told in his candid style. Much as John Peel's book was a reflection of one style of DJing, so will this book be for Tony's unique brand of playing and enjoying music. Much derided by some comedians, but very much still going strong, and ever popular.

From the Publisher
The 30th September 1976 was a day in radio history as Radio 1 took to the airwaves. On that day, a young, ex-pirate radio DJ made his first step in a career that would make him a household name and that is still going strong today.

This is the long overdue autobiography of one of Britain's favourite radio DJ's.

Coinciding with the planned 40th anniversary celebrations of Radio 1.

Packed full of anecdotes and memories of the time he has spent in Radio, from the pirate days of Radio Caroline, through to Radio One, and independant radio.

1.0 out of 5 stars reality radio, 16 Nov 2007
I have every confidence that Tony Blackburn's book will contribute to literature, what his recording career has contributed to modern music history, and will be viewed accordingly. This is the man who gave us such memorable classics as Chop Chop and So Much Love and championed legendary bands such as the Archies and Black Lance. After a string of flop singles (well more a clothes line, 14 records), Tony reinvented himself as Lenny Gamble in 1973, to achieve even greater commercial failure as a recording artist, by 1977 he gave us reality radio, with his begging and crying on the airwaves, due to the breakdown of his marriage. By 1979 he finally achieved his removal from the daytime weekday airwaves, by complaining about article on his show criticising him. Since the millennium dear old Tony was suspended as only he could be by Capital Radio for playing Cliff Richard records back to back. As for Tony Blackburn's opinions of other bands and recording artists, these may only be weighed against his own legacy.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Legend In His Own Mind, 17 Nov 2007
Tony Blackburn's career in radio can be judged only by the quantity, because there was very little quality. His career in a sentence - a DJ who always felt he was more important than the music he played. His one moment of notoriety came when he was fired for standing up to the suits and defiantly playing music by ... Cliff Richard. Yawwwwwwwn.

1.0 out of 5 stars cant believe i started to read this, 16 Nov 2007
i saw this book lying around and had a quick look, had to slap myself.blackburn was the worst dj back in the 1970s, but he believed he was bigger than the bands he played. save your hard earned cash and read a real book on music "diary of a rock n roll star" by ian hunter, he knew the top dj guy stevens, who was miles in front of blackburn.
