"'The Prada of diet books.' Woman and Home; 'Fantastic food for anyone watching their weight.' Olive Magazine; 'A diet book that'll keep you salivating.' Daily Telegraph"

Product Description

Ruth Watson really loves her food: 'I read about it, talk about it, write about it, shop for it and cook it - I even plan holidays around it'. The problem is that for Ruth - and countless others like her - food loves her just as much! Two years ago Ruth managed to lose more than four stone with her unique dieting philosophy that celebrates the sheer irresistibility of good food without sacrificing taste or pleasure. Her diet is based on calorie-counted recipes that are delicious to eat and easy to make, with all food groups allowed, indeed encouraged. Ruth's book includes over 100 recipes ranging from Lamb Chops and Garlic and Spinach Pilaf, to Seared Scallops and Black Tagiolini and Thai-Style mussels. This is food that you will love to eat but is a godsend for those who need to diet. An entire chapter is also devoted to the most common undoing for the dieter - emergency food and snacking. Ruth outlines an enticing array of tried and tested treats to get you through desperate moments without shattering your good work. While not dictating what you should or shouldn't eat, Ruth has managed to create a brilliant and sustainable diet for food lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best 'diet' ever, 18 Feb 2004
By S. Sinclair - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Fat Girl Slim (Paperback)
This is a fabulous book (but then - as it was recommended by my favourite food writer, Nigel Slater - I was confident it would be). The difficulty I always have with diets is that the food is dull. I love food and love cooking more, so I'm not in the market for grilled skinless chicken breast and salad with no dressing for dinner. Ruth Watson's are wonderful recipes, both delicious to eat and fun to cook, and her writing is funny and refreshing, so you can read Fat Girl Slim in bed and feel inspired. Every day my work colleagues ask what I cooked the night before, salivate and ask to borrow the book (no chance). Best of all, I have lost 13 lb since Christmas and haven't felt hungry at all. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensible, practical and realistic diet book, 12 Dec 2003
By Ruth (Bristol United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fat Girl Slim (Paperback)
This is the first diet book I've read that is enthusiastic and funny. Fat Girl Slim is full of mouthwatering recipes from someone who clearly loves food, and who is not afraid to say it. I particularly liked Ms Watson's views that there is no such thing as "good" and "bad" food, that you shouldn't starve yourself, and her assertion that will-power alone is not enough to get you through a serious bought of the munchies. This book has great tips on how to combat said munchies, and how to deal with cooking for the dieter and non-dieter ("your darling"). If you like faddy diets this is not for you - stick to Atkins (and bad breath!). There is a strong leaning towards delicious Asian food in this book, and my only complaint is that there are too many mushrooms in the recipes - but you can always leave them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bye Bye Fat - Hello Superb Food !, 6 Jan 2004
This review is from: Fat Girl Slim (Paperback)
Absolutely fantastic. A book that at last does not preach or claim to have a miracle cure, but simply one that gives you one woman's solution for her initial problems alongside her obvious love for tasty and creative food. As a foody myself (and a bloke) with a few pounds to lose, this is essential cooking. I have tried lots of the recipes and have read it back to front and am still to find one that I do not like. The salmon with bok choy is dreamy. Lots of good, healthy, almost fat-free grub that will have you drooling due to the superb descriptions and photography. Believe me - this book not only works but will open up a whole new world to you proving that delicious and appetising can go hand-in-hand with a diet. All you fad followers such as the totally repulsive Atkins Diet - do yourself a favour and buy this book. Its more interesting, a million times more exciting, a trillions times more tasty (and less dangerous!) and although it will take more time for the fat to fall off, your life will improve tenfold. Just get it !!!!
