Product Description

Product Description

Now firmly established as one of Britain's leading and most loved designers, Cath Kidston's pioneering approach to interior design has earned her international acclaim. Taking her primary inspiration from vintage printed fabrics, her designs evoke a nostalgia that touches anyone who sees it - for childhood, for cosiness, for cheerful, happy, innocent fun. Her trademark prints re-work these classic pieces to give them a fresh, contemporary appeal so that they sit perfectly within a room without overpowering the space. In her new book, In Print, Cath tells you how to use prints in your home in every way imaginable. Each spread in this fabulous, practical style book will feature a different print - some vintage and some from Cath's collections - together with ideas as to how they can be used. A pink and blue rose-covered oilcloth tablecloth covers a plain wooden table in an otherwise white kitchen, little polka dot cushions sit on plastic 60's chairs in an office space, big fluffy flowery bath towels make a statement in a white bathroom. At the other end of the scale, layers of different prints envelop you in the living room and bedroom with loose covers, cushions, pillows quilts and wallpaper. Rather than detailed step-by-step instructions, every page is packed with hints and tips to show the reader how to create their own unique look.

About the Author

Cath Kidston began her career as an interior designer and opened her first shop in London's Notting Hill in 1993, which featured old junk furniture and vintage fabrics. This passion for the past has shaped the Cath Kidston design vision, and the ability to translate this love into prints and modern images has allowed the company to grow while other trends come and go. Cath now oversees an empire that stretches from the US to Japan, Australia to Denmark. In addition to her signature florals and spot print fabrics, Cath Kidston has developed a wide range of products in response to a growing demand. Everything from bags, cushions, t-shirts, nightwear and babygrows are all part of her ever-expanding product range. Cath has also published two previous books: Vintage Style and Tips for Vintage Style.

4.0 out of 5 stars a pretty piece of classic kidston, 18 Nov 2005
By A Customer
I was thrilled to learn that Cath Kidston was bringing out a new book, having been so disappointed buying "vintage tips" and finding out it was a recycling of her first book,"vintage style", I was hoping for something completely different from her.

The books' layout is lovely with vintage prints forming the background to the easy to read text which tells you how use scraps and pieces of printed fabric for projects around the home...even how to make some of Caths' latest offerings for sale in her shop. The back section is particulary good in that it explains where to look for all these fantastic vintage fabrics and gives you sewing tips and full instructions to make the items featured.
Although the book is visually stunning, (Pia Tryde takes gorgeous photos of Caths' home) some of the photos have been used before in her other books or catalogues which is a little disappointing.

This is a lovely Cath Kidston "coffee table" book which would make a great Christmas present for a follower of her distinct style!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely prints, but a missed opportunity?, 4 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This book could have been so much better. The prints themselves are lovely - as you would expect - but the text has been poorly edited. A few nice ideas, but you'd really be better off borrowing this book from the library...

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely coffee table book..., 11 April 2007

This review is from: Cath Kidston in Print (Paperback)
This book was given to me as a gift for Christmas. It's a beatiful book to look at and if like me, you have a love of fabric, print or texture, then this book can't fail to visually inspire.

There's no doubt that Cath Kidston has a real eye for a very specific "english country rose" sort of style, put together with a contemporary eye. She also has some nice ideas for using fabrics in the home. If I were to identify a slight negative, it would be that there are no actual patterns if you fancied making her lovely apron for instance, but if you are looking for ideas or inspiration, then this book can't fail to delight.
