4.0 out of 5 stars The perfect read for a long train journey . . ., 16 Aug 2007
This review is from: Derailed (Paperback)
This is the story of Charles, the ordinary man who, on the train ride to work, meets a woman. They chat, share pictures of their children and soon find themselves getting closer, despite both being married. Then, before Charles knows it they are arranging meetings outside of the casual meet on the train and then suddenly . . .

That's all I am going to tell you. I knew little more than this when I picked up the book and this lack of knowing what is going to happen made it all the more enjoyable.

Oh, and it is enjoyable. It is a riproaring ride which keeps you guessing and predicting and hypothesising all the way through. Could it be that . . ? Is she going to . . ? Would he really . . ?

The joy of this book is the realism, the naturalness of it. The meeting of Charles and Lucinda and the way their relationship develops is second to none. I can imagine the writer, James Siegel, having done this train journey a million times. Yes, as the book develops it does become more and more bizarre and outlandish but that's to be expected with a thriller. The fact still remains that it began in a very real word and this stays with the reader, making the whole novel seem true.

A twisted tale that leaves the reader wanting more. Fantastic!

4.0 out of 5 stars On Track All The Way!, 31 May 2008
By Mr. John Frank Herbert (Greenwich, London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Derailed (Paperback)
When Charles Shine meets Lucinda Harris on the train to work his life changes in a miraculous way.
Both unhappily married, they embark on an illicit affair which inevitably derails their lives.
But not everything is as it seems and for Charles the scenario simply nosedives from one catastrophe after another.

Like a Fatal Attraction WITH TEETH, or to be more precise, with a fair modicum of violence, this story grips you from the opening page and REFUSES to let you go.

5.0 out of 5 stars blockbuster heaven!!!!!!!, 13 July 2004
This review is from: Derailed (Paperback)
Wow!

What a book, what a plot not since reading fight club or a simple plan have I been this impressed with a first time novelist. It cracks along like a freight train and just does not want to stop.

This story is about a normal joe (Charles Schine) an executive on a downward spiral who just happens to meat the most beautifull woman on a train, despite being married............................And then.........Well read the book..

This is that good it is big bold full of twists and turns. Just brilliant. this would make a perfect film if done right.
