i have read alexander kent books now for many years, unfortunately he seems to have totally lost the plot over the last 5 books and far from naval action his frequent references to the lovelorn adam makes me wonder whether barbara cartland has returned from the dead.total tripe the last bolitho book i will ever buy

1.0 out of 5 stars Man of war, 25 May 2004
This review is from: Man of War (Paperback)
Mr Kent seems to have tired of the subject matter. His last few books contain lots of flash backs to 'Sir Richard'. I have read all his books so I know what he is talking about but a new reader would not. There is nothing in his recent books that would want to make me to read another. It seems to me that Mr Kent is expecting his fans to accept this rubbish just because it is an Alexander Kent novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 22 Nov 2005
By R. Lacey "Roy the Rover" (U.K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Man of War (Paperback)
I am a huge fan of Alexander Kent and his series of Bolitho books, I have read all the books in the series and quite frankly this one is a huge disappointment and to be honest I found it rather boring with all the flashbacks to Sir Richard, it started to feel as if Mr Kent had run out of new ideas to involve Adam in, so took the easy option of bringing tried and tested Richard into the book at every opportunity.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Potentially, this book should be excellent, being the 24th book in the series, with a new hero, the nephew of Admiral Bolitho who was killed in the previous book in the series. Read more
