About the Author

Tony Mitton is a highly-respected poet, and has written many titles for children, including the picture books illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees: Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus!, Down by the Cool of the Pool, Spookyrumpus (winner of the Sheffield Book Prize, the Dundee Book Award and the Portsmouth Book Award) and Come to Tea on Planet Zum-Zee for Orchard. Tony also won the Smarties Prize. He spends his time writing, giving poetry performances and visiting primary schools. Tony lives in Cambridge. 5.0 out of 5 stars A smashing not-too spooky rhyming rumpus for young children, 22 Nov 2006
By ELH Browning "Esther-Lou" (Kingston Bagpuize, Oxon) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This book is a very friendly look at a spooky night, written with good rhythm and flowing rhyme. There are the least scary ghosts imaginable, the likeable-looking skeletons that you see on the cover, furry spiders, twin witches etc romping through the forest, counting down from ten to one great big pumpkin pie and a night time party for all the characters who have appeared in the book. It's a beautifully illustrated bright and cheerful introduction to the Halloween characters that couldn't scare even the most timid preschooler. Although perfect for Halloween, it isn't explicitly linked to it, and so is appropriate (and doubtless will be requested at bedtime) all year round.
