Review
To some the mere mention of vegan food conjures up the idea of healthy but irredeemably dull food, usually involving beans or lentils. But at a time when more and more are suffering from food intolerances, and the problems and cruelties of industrialised farming are becoming increasingly evident, a vegan diet can be well worth following. As Amanda Grant points out, vegan food can be as nutritious and energy-enhancing as any other regime, and judging by these recipes it's certainly not boring. Starting with quick and easy ideas like Crunchy Marmite Toasts, it progresses to Vegan Lasagne and Homemade Pizzas and then to more ambitious concoctions like Tomato and Pine Nut Linguine with Caramelized Lemon and Spicy Gazpacho Soup with Paprika Croutons. Desserts are just as tempting - Moroccan Spiced Rice Pudding and Chocolate Raspberry Hazelnut Cake will brighten up any dinner party, and the lack of photographs is easily compensated for by the clear and easy-to-follow instructions. This is a book that will definitely be used. Even if you're not a vegan yourself it will be invaluable for guests, and after trying out a few of the recipes here you may find that meat and dairy products become much less central to your diet!
