5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide, turned my holiday into a fantastic adventure, 28 Jun 2007
The Gambia's the kind of place where it's fun to just relax by the pool and do nothing. But it's even more fun to get out and about, having adventures! This book helped me do exactly that.

Without the Rough Guide, I would have missed out on so much. I chose my hotel on the basis of a review in the book, and loved the place. And in just a week I took boat trips along amazing mangrove creeks, visited crazy markets, and met really friendly villagers. The book tells it how it is, so you're not left wondering which trip/lodge/restaurant to choose. It's also really good on background info. I'd definitely recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars inacurate but ok, 9 April 2009

(REAL NAME)
I recently went to The Gambia and took this book along for travel advice. Overall it was ok. The information about culture, religion, money etc. was useful, however the map was completely inaccurate as were the restaurant reviews.

The map was also rather difficult to navigate due to none of the items being listed consecutively, and therefore you had to fish around to find what you were looking for. Also the reviews for restaurants led me to believe that the writer(s) had not visited these places for a meal, nor so much as reviewed the menus as the pricing and descriptions were a little off.

If you are intending on visiting this beautiful country, my advice would be to research places to eat on the internet before going.
