Product Description

Review

"The most readable, comprehensive and informative guide around." Cosmopolitan Magazine

Product Description

This "Rough Guide" contains lively and detailed accounts of the best-known attractions from the great art treasure houses of the Uffizi and Vatican museums to the stunning natural scenery of Tuscany and the Amalfi coast. Off-the-beaten track there is coverage of the lesser-known sights, such as the rugged Monte Sibillini range and remote hill-villages of the south. Practical guidance on sporting activities, such as skiing in the Dolomites or windsurfing on Lake Garda, exists alongside sections on more leisurely pursuits like wine tasting in Umbria.

4.0 out of 5 stars Indespensible Guide for touring Italy, 5 Sep 2003
Having Just come Back from a camping trip to Rome by Train, I can honestly say that this book was of immense value. All the information I needed was in there and when you have no car and do not know where you are staying from one day to the next it is important the info is correct. There are gliches and these come in the forms of the maps and some of the prices. If your going to rome or venice buy yourself a good map, everywhere else is described adequately. The prices of things are obviously going to change but this would appear to be by the the day in Venice, so don't trust what the guide says about prices in Venice, it will be more expensive than it states. The Digest on the more popular sites in Rome is good too, with a brief history and description of each - enough to keep you informed of what your looking at. I also found the camping guide very useful. All the campsites reccomended by the guide that I used were excellent. For some reason and I can't describe why I just prefer the rough guide series, except the American one.
