4.0 out of 5 stars should be one of the first books on your list, 19 May 2004
This isn't the perfect gambling book, but it easily stands comparison with the best of what is out there and is streets ahead of much of the competition.

Its focus is principally on the risk management side of things - an essential, and much neglected (in the other books in this area), facet to making a profit consistently from gambling.

Some of the graphs and tables can make for heavy reading, but the essential truth is there and a quick flick through most of them just serves to reinforce the truths which are clearly developed in the main text.

Where this book scores most highly is in its positioning of sports wagering as a form of investment (with justifications) and in its thorough comparative evaluation of various staking strategies and the risks associated with them.

On its own the book won't make you a successful gambler, but I'll bet (ha ha) that you won't find ANY successful gambler (long term) who isn't comfortable with or at least intuitively familiar with the concepts developed in this book. As such it belongs on everybodys reading list as they seek to break into that magic 3% of gamblers who actually make a profit.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent analysis for serious punter, 4 Jul 2004
By N. Pearce - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
this book will not really tell you what to bet on, but it does deal pretty exhaustively with an often neglected side of gambling; which staking plan to use.

a lot of people give no real thought to how much to stake on their given selection and the relevance of this on the risk to their bank roll, and potential returns over the long run. this book is therefore essential reading for any serious punter who wants to learn about a variety of staking plans, and how each affects the risk of losing your bankroll, not making a profit or making a profit, and of course the effect that each plan has on the potential returns from your selections.

so good i lent it to a mate, and i haven't had it back yet! (you know who you are)

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Betting via risk management, 25 Jun 2004
By ccccpn (Guildford United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I found the book very interesting. I thought that providing information (charts principally) without ramming a methodology down the readers throat particularly sound. An excellent
book written for the non statistician, with an excellent section on bank roll management, and how to deal with the risk/reward conumdrum
