2.0 out of 5 stars Hard Work!, 19 Jul 2004
By A Customer
This book shows you how to POTENTIALLY make money from soccer betting. The system is based on rating systems to predict the games. Power Ratings, Game Form & Penetration which must be updated from the start of the season for all Premiership, Division 1, 2, 3 & Scots Prem. games.
Updating the results is tedious as you have to find shots on and off target, as well as corners made by each team on the internet. The betting is based on accumulators, home teams as bankers and away teams are to win or draw.

I developed a computer program to keep a track of all ratings and had high hopes. Initially I won my first two bets making
around £600 from £30 stakes, but since then I have not won which has reduced my winnings considerably.
Two wins is not worthy of the time required to produce these ratings as I have guessed results better.

5.0 out of 5 stars This isn't the whole answer, just some.................., 22 Jun 2006

Having developed a statistical model for the premiership to within a gnats head of reliable profitability, I was looking for inspiration.

This book points out many interesting and meaningful VALUE opportunities that arise at the start and throughout the season.

My main focus however was the 15 system studies that are described and tested in this book. Although I have reservations about the testing of these systems they are food for thought nonetheless. I have used the better systems as new inputs into my model to embelish and enrich the source data. The uplift is impressive, especially system 13.

This book did for me, exactly what I hoped it would do. It aided me to move from a nearly man to a very nearly man - add this book and its 15 systems to historic bookies odds and your on to a good thing.

It was first football betting book, its written well and I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, with a couple of niggling downsides, 17 Jul 2007
By Mr. Brian Williams (Ireland) - See all my reviews

I'm sure if you're reading this, you've gotten your fingers burned a few times with football betting. "I can do that!", you probably said. Harder than it looks, eh?

After one particularly nasty loss, I decided to seek help. I found it in this book.
It is exactly what I've been looking for. It gives you 15 systems for betting, the 3 best being Power Ratings (strength of home team vs. away team), Game Form (recent form, as the name implies) and Penetration Plus (ability of a team to create chances). The systems tell you what matches to bet on, and, almost as importantly, what to avoid. It almost entirely removes "the gut" from the equation, which is exactly what I've been looking for.
I am using the first 2 systems currently on the League of Ireland Premier and First Divisions, and the results are brilliant. I have won 13/16 bets using these systems, which is a success rate of 81% so far. Of course, my selections are limited due to the fact that I have a maximum of 11 matches any weekend to choose from, but once the English/Scottish football kicks off, that's when the real fun begins.

Be warned, however. This book gets quite complicated at times, and the permutation betting system is not explained very well. It took me ages to figure it out, and I'm a smart guy. You also need to be reasonably handy with Microsoft Excel in order to use the 3 aforementioned systems, and writing them out initially coupled with updating the results is a real time-consumer, so I would only go for this book if you are SERIOUS about making money from football betting.

Bottom line: if you're prepared to put in the time and effort, it is more than possible to make money on football betting using this book. I won the price of this book back with my first bet. Think about that.

The book has some good systems to use to predict football results. However its based on late 90's and early 2000 season so a few chapters and content are not relevant anymore. Read more
