I bought this book to find out more about the whereabouts of my grandfather when he was injured in WW1 in 1917. I was not disappointed and found a number of references to his regiment, including where he was on the date of his injury.
The book is a diary of the events as they happened to the Division, and was written by The Rev. Coop, Senior Chaplain of the Division (1919). It contains detailed information about times and places in which all the different Regiments in the 55th Division were involved.
There are maps, some photographs, but of the 'higher ups', Majors, Generals etc., a list of honours, and casualty figures.
The book does not give the feeling of horror and the appalling conditions which more recently published books are giving us, but it is a good reference book.
