Rebecca embarks on a step-by-step guide to painting flowers in the classic Chinese style. Aimed at the novice the chapters take one through the preliminary steps of choosing materials and mastering basic techniques, simple brushstrokes and then moving onto more complex brushstrokes.
Interspersed between the chapters are projects to encourage the painter to complete a painting to put together the techniques learnt.
Later chapters combine strokes learnt previously into more complex flowers. The final chapter is a Gallery of beautiful flower compositions to copy.
The strength of this book lies in its clear, concise information and also the useful 'see also' section on each page giving reference to relevant information elsewhere in the book. There is also a useful section on creating washes and an introduction to Rebecca's own individualistic method of dry mounting completed works.
This would make an ideal starter book for the novice painter but is also a superb revision aid for the more advanced.
