Product Description

Product Description

The results of the 2001 census revealed that there are more single people than ever before in the UK. Some have not yet married; others are divorced or separated. People's needs and wants differ, but financial independence means that these have shifted radically during the last few decades of the 20th century. Technology such as e-mail, mobile phones, text- and picture-messaging, and speed dating and Internet dating sites have radically changed meeting, dating and matching patterns. In the 21st century, relationships are big business, with a plethora of TV shows dedicated to matching people and self-help books claiming to show you how to capture and keep a partner. "The Dating Game" tells you how it is: the pleasures, pitfalls and fun of dating for dating's sake without the jargon or too-serious advice on how to drag your man up the aisle in the fastest possible time. This text tackles the following dilemmas, plus many more: to flirt or not to flirt? When is showing an interest looking too obvious - or worse, desperate? How do you dress on a date? Where do you go and what do you talk about? It also delves into the minefield that is sex, with all its expectations and confusions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Max Fun from Dating!, 29 Oct 2003
By A Customer
This book is great fun! It really tells it like it is and is full of loads of practical info and advice, but the author clearly wants us girls to have fun in our dating life rather than find a man, any man, and try to get him to settle down with us as soon as possible. If you want to find out more about how to meet a man and get maximum enjoyment from your dates then get hold of a copy of this book. Highly recommended - just wish blokes would read it too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, yet practical the advice your best friend should give, 6 Dec 2003
This is a great book and I can't believe the previous reviewers didn't say how funny it was. Jo Hemmings writes as if she is one of your best friends, telling you stuff you know you don't really want to be told, but realising the truth of it. It is done with so much humour and knowledge that you can't possibly take it the wrong way.

I wish my friends all had a background in psychology and had carried out research into dating. If so I probably wouldn't need this book. But as they haven't the book is a fantastic replacement.

Perfect if you're single or back on the singles route, or indeed a practical gift if you know someone in the same position.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dating Game, 29 Oct 2003
By A Customer
The Dating Game is a terrific book. You really get the sense that the author has used her personal experiences of dating in addition to her professional knowledge, There is an abundance of good, common sense do's and don't's. In particular, with the subjects on flirting and body language as well as tell-it-like-it-is info on internet and speed dating. There is something for everyone:Lighthearted in some sections, sensitive and thought- provoking in others. My personal favourite is the summary section in bullet format, at the end of every chapter - worth photocopying and folding up to put in a handbag/pocket for those 'important' dates. At last, a book that really relates to ordinary women that date, without patronising or padding out with pyschobabble. I thoroughly enjoyed this and laughed along the way, I also learnt a few tricks ! I wish blokes would buy this book it would teach them a thing or two. But I bet they won't. I'd highly recommend this book to any single girl (or guy!) who just wants to have a little dating know-how and fun!
