This is so much more than just a guidebook, so much more than just a history book. The author clearly loves his work and works at his love. His text takes you almost literally inside each one of these disctinctive and highly individual drinking houses. You can taste the hops, smell the barley, hear the chat and visualise all the quirky old characters lurking in the corner as you travel with Haydon on an odyssey through the pubs that make London's heart beat. Buy it, read it, then get out there and live it!

I found this like the book, "Last Orders:" Life as a Pub Landlord by Chris Pitts, gives an intriguing and hilarious insight into the centre of the British Universe; the great British Pub! Buy them both, you won't regret it!
