Product Description

Product Description

Sometime the stupidity of man is overwhelming, so much so that it is difficult to imagine that man has walked on the moon and created the wheel. We have distinguished ourselves by our need to invent. Occasionally, however we can get it wrong, very wrong indeed. This is an amusing compilation of the some of the hiccups and the stupidest inventions that very nearly worked.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not fantastic..., 7 Feb 2005
From its price, size and title, it is obvious that this book is designed to be a stocking filler or birthday present for a child. Like the 'Darwin Awards' books, it is books that I read once, and never again. It is funny for a short while, but you would not want to read it again - but then again it never promises to be anything other than this.

Overall, this book is funny, but not hilarious; good, but not fantastic. It could be better, but it could have been a lot worse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something Different, 7 Jan 2005
By Alex Ryder (Blighty) - See all my reviews
Hi Everyone.

I have always enjoyed the work of Adam Hart Davis. Mainly due to the programs, Local Heros and the Royal institution Christmas Lectures.

The book i found was very interesting, And written in a way that only Adam Hart Davis could. With his sense of humour and facination of the subject, this made for a very enjoyable read.

I would reccomend this book to anyone, more so to fans of Adams tv work(exept the inland revenue ads Boo Hiss). My only moan is that when discussing one invention, it seems to move onto another invention, Almost within the same sentence, Without a new paragraph. Other than that very enjoyable.
