Product Description
Synopsis
Mainstream educational provision for children on the autistic spectrum can be inadequate or inappropriate. An increasing number of parents dissatisfied with the education system are looking elsewhere for an approach that will suit their children's needs. In "Home Educating Our Autistic Spectrum Children", parents who have chosen to home educate their children with autism or Asperger's syndrome candidly relate their experiences: how they reached the decision to educate at home, how they set about the task, and how it has affected their lives. Following these personal accounts, the final chapters offer practical advice on getting started with home education, legal advice from an expert in education law, and contact details of support organisations

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, reassuring and non-patronising!, 25 Jan 2002
Taking the leap into the unknown as far as Home Teaching is concerned must rate up there with that moment when you realise that you are in labour and there is no going back. While teaching your average child at home would seem absolutely crazy idea on times, those of us with "special" children are up against the establishment and professionals too. This book is packed with heart warming accounts of parents of special children of very differing abilities and how they succeeded where "formal" education had failed. It has useful chapters on finding support, information and reading resources. The chapter on the Law in England and Wales is well written, clear and concise. I'm glad to have read this book so early on in my education! It's nice to know you are not alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise the Lord., 7 Nov 2003
I was only two pages into this book when I shouted out "at last".
This is a must read for anyone who feels they are banging their head against a brick wall with the School or family. I have spent so long being told I am over protective of my son. Being patted on the head by Teachers and feeling useless. Having the "we're the professionals leave it to us" talk, and all the time feeling deep down something was wrong and I needed to do something. It won't give you all the answers on how to home educate, but it will make you feel a lot more empowered and ready to face the opportunity if you so wish. I love it, take my word buy it, you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars This was the book that saved our sanity, 16 May 2004
By A Customer
This book answered my questions about why home educate, about how to home educate and about how to fit the
home education of my son into our family life. I read this book when my son was in nursery, he has Aspergers.
I had just found out that we did not have to send him to school and I read this book hoping that it would answer some
of my questions.
It answered them with bells on.
All these different people, all home educating in a way to fit their family needs. My son did not start school, he is at home
and life is a hundred times less stressful as a result.
I cannot recommend this book enough, you won't regret reading it.
