Synopsis

Mike Clarke was born and raised in Liverpool. For over thirty years he has been researching the history of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and is the acknowledged expert on the subject. His interests are much wider; he wrote the section on European Waterway history for Encyclopaedia Britannica, and has worked on historic engineering projects across Europe.This book was first published almost fifteen years ago as part of the Maritime Museum's series on Port History. Mike has added further historical information and illustrations, and has brought the story up-to-date with details of the new canal across Pier Head, linking the north and south docks.
