Product Description

Product Description

A unique collection of interviews with the world's most influential spiritual teachers. Ramesh Balsekar and Gangaji, John de Ruiter and Pamela Wilson, Wayne Liquorman, Tony Parsons and Catherine Ingram - all leading contemporary Western Advaita teachers active in the world today, engage in conversation with Paula Marvelly, helping her along her own spiritual journey, sifting through concepts and dogma in order to find the answer to that most elusive question of them all, Who am I? Taking her from informal gatherings in the lounges of London to satsang in a church in Amsterdam; from a dark night of the soul on a beach in California to the taste of Oneness inside the cave of the great sage Sri Ramana Maharshi on the mountain of Arunachala, THE TEACHERS OF ONE is a frank and courageous voyage of self discovery in the search for the ultimate meaning of life which will touch a chord with all its readers.

About the Author

Paula Jane Marvelly has studied the philosophy of non-dualism since the age of 21 and was a member of the school of Economic Science. She is an active member of the Ramana Maharshi Foundation in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars welcome contribution, 12 Dec 2003
By R. Haigh (Cornwall United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In this book Paula Marvelly interviews fifteen contemporary teachers of Advaita. Each teacher has a slightly different (occasionally contradictory) take on the teaching, which makes for very rich reading. This is accompanied by Paula’s own sparse but valuable commentary in which she is not afraid to expose her own vulnerability and frustration as a seeker.

In all, this is a welcome contribution to the glut of Advaita books available at the moment, giving just about the right amount of each teachers perspective without too much waffle.

I look forward to a volume two!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 18 Jun 2005
By D. Waite (Dorset , UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
All seekers will empathise with this sincere and beautifully written, personal search for the truth of the Self, as the author traverses the world to interview a number of modern teachers of Advaita. There is much to learn about their personal backgrounds, teaching styles and content and gems of wisdom are elicited by the penetrating questions. But for me it was the interludes between these, where the author writes about her own feelings and reactions that make this book special. The reader shares her moments of confusion, loneliness and yearning as well as those of peace, understanding and acceptance, culminating in a samAdhi experience in Ramana's Virupaksha cave at Arunachala. Wonderful!

Dennis Waite, author of "Back to the Truth: 5000 Years of Advaita"

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done!, 25 Mar 2009
By Derek Adams (Southport UK) - See all my reviews
She has taken the teachings of about 20 or so teachers and tried to make sense out of thier words which was often frustrating for her, but the book has great clarity and a sense of one who is a sincere student of enlightenment wanting to find her answers. She had done a great job with this book.
