4.0 out of 5 stars A new approach to Anti-Social Behaviour, 12 Dec 2007
By Marshall Lord (Whitehaven, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Frank Field is one of the most honest and clear-sighted politicians of this or any other generation. If you ask a Tory or Lib/Dem MP if there are any Labour MP's who they admire, they are more likely to name Frank than anyone else, and it is an indictment of the present government that they've left a man of his quality on the back benches for nine years.

And if you ask any councillor of whatever party what sort of problem which wrecks the quality of their constituent's lives is the most difficult to deal with, they are very likely to say neighbour disputes.

In this thought provoking book Frank Field assesses the difficulties of dealing with problem neighbours, recognising that a small number of "challenging" families have caused damage to the lives of people living near them out of all proportion to their numbers. He comes up with a number of proposals linking the police, schools, and the welfare system into a concerned strategy to address the problem.

You may not agree with all his solutions - I certainly don't - but his analysis is very powerful and all the ideas in this book are worth thinking about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent analysis of Anti-Social Behaviour issues, 20 Oct 2003
Frank Field has come up with a logical and clear account of how our society is falling apart because of antisocial behaviour and the reasons why. His approach is non-political and the book is all the more accurate for it.

Although I would advocate a tougher approach to antisocial behaviour rather than a contract as Frank Field proposes, it is certainly a step in the right direction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frank Field reveals the truth about himself and New Labour..., 28 Jan 2009
By MaryAthanasius (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
Regarded as a 'conservative' and 'honest' Labour MP even by conservatives - though some have rightly said, if so why is Field still amongst New labour's numbers? - Frank Field does a daring thing in this book: he reveals himself to be, just like his New Labour colleagues, a radical and dangerous socialist and in this book he claims that an admittedly small number of 'failing parents' requires a radical solution - a complete take-over of the raising of all children by the State through the use of so-called 'professionals' - police, teachers, social and health workers. The very people in fact which this govt. has politicised without even a fightback. Expect a large rise in the giving of Ritalin to kids in school, and the number of abortions performed without parents' knowledge, morning after pills given out and visiting talks by radical groups in schools. Parents, according to Field's analysis, have faile (and given the above it's no wonder some will; what's surprising is, it's not more) and therefore the State must take over. And this statement is being repeated by health, social and educational workers and others, so who's talking to them? Well New Labour of course. And how many of these people can still claim to serve the family and the taxpayer as they unquestioningly take up these wholly illegitimate powers? Frank Field has written a daring book in that those who have reviewed it both here and in the press do not appear to understand its clear and repeatedly stated intentions: to remove from children the authority of those who are there to protect them, their parents and their families. Much of this has already gone through Parliament. Be very afraid. When (so-called) 'professionals' have not the integrity to question what they're asked to do, which they don't, then our children are in danger of being enslaved and used by the power and whim of politicians and their masters - money men - such as Frank Field and New Labour - a govt. which has open and extensive links with paedophile organisations, as detailed in Lynette Burrows' book on the people behind the childrens' rights movement. Field is a radical socialist after all. Only the family and religion still stand in the way of these people. Frank Field is no 'conservative', but a very dangerous, very scary snake in the grass. Gather up your children and head for the hills, if you still can. And I don't care what any number of 'new labour' useful idiots might say... if Frank Field ever comes within a foot of any child of mine.... well.
