Product Description

Product Description
Sophie lives in Gorom-Gorom, with her carnivorous-plant obsessed dad. Despite living there for two years and speaking the local language, Sophie finds it difficult to make friends. So when she meets Gidaado, a young griot (story-teller), she agrees to join him and his albino camel, Chobbal, on a journey to his village. It is not until they have set off, that Sophie begins to realise just how dangerous the desert is - it's full of djinnis that creep up behind you, and jump on your head and make you go mad. Not to mention the infamous Moussa ag Litni, a ruthless bandit who steals camels...

From the Back Cover
Never mess with the Sahara Desert!'
That's what Sophie's dad is always telling her.
But when Sophie meets Gidaado the Fourth and his fine albino camel, the offer of a camel ride is just too good to resist.
It turns out that the Sahara is more dangerous than Sophie could ever have imagined. There are snakes. There are djinns. There are sandstorms. And most terrifying of all there is Moussa ag Litni - a murderous Tuareg bandit intent on stealing camels.
A gripping African adventure for boys and girls alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars A short but gripping tale!, 4 April 2006
By Mike (Rugby, Warwickshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Chobbal the Albino camel stares balefully from the attractive cover, but in truth turns out to be a bit of a hero (and have you ever seen a camel that doesn't look bored!)

Stephen Davies brings the sights, sounds and creatures of this African backwater to life as we join Sophie on an adventure she didn't expect!

The book arrived in the post today and had me rapidly turning the pages until I reached the thrilling finale.
It didn't take long, but then again its written for someone 30 years younger - now I just need to give it to a child to enjoy too!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent read, 21 Jun 2007
An exciting childrens fast track adventure which gives amazing insight into real African life. Only someone who lives there could describe West African life like this. Great.
