Every year, when the moon is in the eucalyptus trees, all the tigers in the country come together to dance. They make a giant circle. Each tiger holds the tail of the tiger in front of him, and they dance in the light of the eucalyptus moon. But unfortunately for Teeho, not quite all tigers get involved. As he is not yet three months old, he is deemed to be too young, and for him to dance would be against the rule. He stomps off - and runs into a friend, who reminds him that he could do his own dance, and then no one could say there was a rule against it. So he practices, and practices, and when the time comes, he begins:One step forward, one step back. A turn to the side and a flick of the tail. And repeat! It looks so much fun and all the older tigers are so impressed, that they all start dancing Teeho's dance. He has earned his place in the Moondance.
From the Author
This was my first book ever to be published, and I still love
looking at it. Doffy did such a wonderful job on the illustrations! I've
had such lovely comments from people who have read it, too. One mother told
me her 2 1/2 year old son asked for it to be read one evening, and then
practised the Moondance himself in front of the patio windows when he
thought no one was watching!
People do ask me what age group Moondance is suitable for. I've had
feedback from parents who have children as young as two who say they love
it. I've also heard of eight-year-olds enjoying the story (not to mention
grandparents!)
Some children have asked me if there will be more stories about Teeho and
his friends. At the moment, I have no further plans for Teeho, but I did
love Quark's character, and so maybe there will be a story about him one
day.
