An unusual and excellent read!, 28 May 2006
A very unusual storyline that fascinated me from the start of Silver Child, through Silver City and onto Silver World. It is a 'MUST read' to finish the story.

Think Carefully!, 4 Jan 2006
Like the first book in this sequence, The Silver Child, Silver City is a very unusual and rather disturbing story. It concerns the fate of the world resting in the hands of many children, who undergo strange and frightening changes to prepare them for the battle ahead. There are many graphic scenes and the book verges on horror. It is a 'children's book' in the sense that the key characters are children, but I doubt it would make suitable bedtime reading for many.Like the first book, this one leaves you with many questions, and is not a satisfying read in itself. To understand and appreciate the story you will need to read the whole sequence. Another annoyance (which stops the book getting a higher star rating) is the regular occurence of what appear to be 'continuation errors', as the author seems to forget which children are where or what they are doing. Maybe this is less noticeable to children than adults? It is certainly annoying when you find you need to reread a section because it doesn't appear to make sense, only to find that indeed it does not! All this said, it is certainly a gripping story, perhaps because it opens up so many questions and doesn't rush to answer them, or perhaps because it is so bizarre and disturbing that you wonder what the author will dream up for these children next. I would certainly think very carefully before giving this book to any child under the age of 14, and it would very much depend on the maturity of the reader if 14+. As a parent, I'd recommend you read this story first yourself, and use your personal judgement to decide whether it is suitable for your own child.

READ SILVER WORLD!!!, 1 Oct 2005
Silver World is Cliff McNish's finale to the Silver Sequence. It is different (in a good way!) and I have enjoyed reading this and everything else Cliff McNish has written. It is about 6 children who must stop "The Roar", an intergalactic being, from destroying everything on earth. These 6 kids develop different skills to battle the Roar, but if you want to find out more, just read the whole series!!!!Instead of it being written in a 3rd person view, it is written in a 1st person view. In other words, instead of someone narrating about Thomas (one of the main characters), Thomas is talking and describing things himself, which is better and easier to understand when reading it. I would say Silver World is his most exciting book (so far...). It holds you in suspense and, like me, you'll want to read it all over again. It is definitely worth a read and a buy! Also, people should check out his website: (www.cliffmcnish.com) for more news and info on him.
