Product Description

Review
"Word of mouth recommendations, and school visits by the author, who describes such fascinating props as the sponge on a stick that the Romans used to wipe their bottoms, have made Caroline Lawrence's Roman Mysteries into one of the success stories of the year. Her novels...are informed by her scholarly knowledge of the classics. Her latest and darkest is The Assassins of Rome." - Nicolette Jones The Sunday Times, 1 December 2002 "Word is spreading about Caroline Lawrence's Roman Mysteries set in ancient Italy. The author's classical and Hebrew scholarship underpins the lively, modern tone of the thrilling adventures of four young detectives." - Nicolette Jones The Sunday Times "...the latest in the exciting 'Roman Mysteries' series, which provide an extremely palatable and accurate introduction to ancient Rome...This series is ideal for anyone planning to take children on home to Rome or Pompeii" The Spectator, 14-21 December 2002 "Lawrence has succeeded in not only recreating the world of Ancient Rome, but has also written some really exciting, child-centred thriller stories...As the plot gathers we meet a whole cast of richly developed characters in a Roman world as vividly as if we were today. A really great read for any youngster with a taste for history." Northern Echo, 25 August 2003

5.0 out of 5 stars The Assasins of Rome, 16 Jan 2003
By M. J. Tittensor (Cambridge, Cambs United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Another Roman mystery arises! Set in 79 A.D, 3 months after the erruption of vesuvius.

Johnathon has had a birthday. He is deeply distressed when he finds out that an assasin is headed for his father! The assasin tells Johnathon that his dead Mother may still be alive! Now his friends, Flavia and Nubia face a tough decision, to follow Johnathon, or wait for Flavia's father, Marcus Flavia Geminia, to return to Ostia for adult advice?

A thrilling book, and historically correct. The character's have developed a lot from the first three books in this stunning series. I would thoroughly recomend this book to people who like mysteries. This book is the best Caroline Lawrence book yet and is aimed for the teenage years (12 - 15).

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for The Assassins of Rome, 6 Dec 2002
I am 16 and still found this book exciting despite being slightly above the age it is aimed at. It has a gripping story-line which will thrill any young reader, and is full of lots of surprises as well as being educational and historically accurate. It is a unique adventure story with the added interest of being set in Ancient Rome. Well worth the read, a perfect present, I thoroughly recommend it.
