Review
Bernie Rhodenbarr, the New York dealer in secondhand books who moonlights as a rather accident-prone burglar (he picks locks with great ease but tends to find the odd corpse along with the cash and jewellery) is back to entertain his fans. Also back is Carolyn, the lesbian friend who works in a poodle parlour when she isn't acting as his sounding board. Thanks to her, the dramatis personae now include a cat, hired to help keep down the bookstore's mice, who also helps to solve the mysterious crimes. Highly entertaining stuff. (Kirkus UK)
