Book Description
Theodore Honey is a scientist with an interest in the paranormal and a job testing metal fatigue in aircraft. When a new transatlantic plane, the Reindeer, is found to have crashed in Labrador, Theodore believes he knows why. The scientist is sent to the scene of the crash. En route to Canada Theodore learns he is flying in a Reindeer and is in danger.

Shute is perhaps the best known of English authors of the 20th century concerning tales with an aviation bias. Slightly dated now, they still read beautifully. For fans of Shute might I suggest that you try John Templeton Smith's "White Lie" and "Saigon Express", which in their own way carry on a tradition of the best of British. Curiously enough Smith attended the same English school (Shrewsbury) as Nevil Shute Norway (albeit many years later). Must have had some pretty good English masters at that noble institution!

(REAL NAME)   
No Highway - (and Round the Bend) - state beautifully the Nevil Shute view that the meek shall inherit the earth, particularly if they are aircraft engineers. Shute draws out the humanity in each character with affection.

He sets them against another favoured backdrop: that once you leave Britain, a glorious landscape and heart-warming honest folk are to be found in the likes of Canada or Australia.

This master story-teller's work is deservedly back in print. My 1960s copy is about to disintegrate, so I'll probably buy again.

Nevil Shute has been an author with whom I can always rely on, and this book does not dissapoint. From the very beginning, I could not put it down. It contains everything you could want from a fiction book, suspense, romance and most importantly fantasies. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, no matter what their tastes or preferences are.
