Book Description
The Word of Faith movement, with its promise of health and wealth for those who make a positive confession to God, is one of the most controversial forms of modern Christianity. It has been accused of distorting Scripture, sanctifying greed, maligning medical practice and exporting the worst of American tele-evangelism around the world.
Mainstream Christians have usually condemned Word of Faith teachers. But have we really listened to what they are saying? This book, produced by the Evangelical Alliance's Theological Commission, aims to give a fair hearing to the Word of Faith movement. Its shortcomings are acknowledged and thoroughly critiqued. But account is also taken of the historical, religious and cultural circumstances that have shaped this distinctive subspecies of Pentecostalism. As such, the report offers grounds for mutual understanding and for a more biblical theology of prosperity.
