I really enjoyed this book - it provides a great range of alternative excercise routines (centred around exotic dance), but wouldn't recommend it on it's own for use as an excercise tool. This book is by the successful Leah Stoffer who produces the Art of Exotic Dancing for Everyday Women DVD. The book contains a discussion and breakdown of a lot of the moves she teaches in her classes and on the DVD, and expands on the themes of body image and self-acceptance expressed in the DVD. In fact, that is the central focus of much of her teaching - that women should learn to love their bodies and men will follow their lead. A lot of the book is devoted to getting comfortable in your own skin, which I quite enjoyed but people who already have a healthy body image may start to find annoying. The workouts aren't especially innovative but they are effective and fun. The pictures are nice, and the book is quite well written. The main drawback with this book is merely the fact that it is a book. It's very hard to learn a dance move by looking at pictures. If you really want to learn exotic dance or get a good workout her DVD is a better buy. This book requires you to be very self-motivated in learning and memorising moves and doing your own workout - it's much easier when you have an instructor in front of you that you can follow and copy. The book is a good accompaniment to the DVD and is useful in that it covers different forms of dance (such as bellydance) and not just 'exotic' dance. However if you really want to learn exotic dance, a DVD or video is a better option.
