Product Description

Product Description

Joey One-Way says that there is only one way he is getting out of prison - in a box. That is, until hot-shot TV and film producer, Markie Mann, pulls strings to spring Joey after he'd served seventeen and a half years in the joint for murdering his wife. On the outside Joey meets Fleur, Markie's wife, and that's when he starts heading for trouble. What he doesn't appreciate is that trouble is heading faster for him ...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Crime Novel Like No Other, 5 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Joel Rose's superb "Kill Kill Faster Faster" is the story of doomed Joey One-Way, a conventional story of a man attempting and failing to sort his life out after leaving prison, told in the most unconventional fashion. This is a novel whose prose jumps out of the page; it is written in a freeform stream of consciousness fashion but not so much as to be impenetrable. At times, Joel Rose hits the height of poetry, and the cut-up fashion of the prose certainly suggests he was aiming for this. Rose doesn't hold back on the gory details either. A horrific prison shower sequence is brutally detailed, and Joey's sexual encounters are also shown in some detail. Most importantly though, the book has that rare commodity in crime fiction: a heart. Joey is not some two dimensional thug. He is capable of violence, but also of a deep love for Markie Mann's woman, a love that leads to the novel's tragic denoument. It is a bitter conclusion, but despite the brutality evident in the novel, "Kill Kill Faster Faster" is a work of strange beauty.
