5.0 out of 5 stars Classic early Archer, 8 Dec 2008

(REAL NAME)
Macdonald is getting into his literary stride with this the second Archer mystery. It was made into an adequate film starring Paul Newman, which inexplicably managed to miss some of the best scenes such as when Archer is introduced as a Hollywood agent at a cocktail party of theatrical poseurs, and his wry observation that there is nothing wrong with Southern California that a rise in sea level wouldn't fix, which includes the anguished families whose confused deceptions Archer must here painfully strip away.
