5.0 out of 5 stars Essential guide for parents of children with special needs, 25 Jun 2002
By Chris Gravell (Milton Keynes United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I am the parent of a boy who just happens to have Down's syndrome and whose education attracted big problems, and have used 'Taking Action' since its first edition in 1996. It's very user-friendly -- you find your problem first, then go to a case study which gives you the low down on what your options are (including your rights in law), the first step to take (including model letters to write), and what to do if it doesn't work. The advice is authoritative and all the 40 case studies are based on the experience of the authors -- John Wright is one of the directors of IPSEA, the UK's leading independent special educational needs advice-giving charity, and David Ruebain is a practising solicitor and author in the area and that of disability rights. It also contains the relevant bits of the Education Act 1996, summaries of significant court cases, and a directory of where to get specialist help.

Parents -- this is your one-stop advice shop in a book, worth every penny! Advisers and advocates -- you need this to hand at all times. SENCOs -- have it on the shelf to help yoour parents.
